Living in Spain far away from the origins of Bluegrass music, the members of Blue Mountain get together in 2002 with the idea of making some fun.   Bluegrass music was their common love and before they knew what was happening the band was performing in Nashville at the IMBA world of Bluegrass.  A dream came true for Rafa Colmenarejo and his compadres.  While being in Nashville they met with their musical heroes and coming back to Spain wasn’t the end of their adventure.  Back home the band worked harder then ever and finished the album that I’m now spinning!

Lonesome roads is the band’s debut and contains landmarks of the past five years. Originals, bluegrass classics and rock covers done Appalachian style are the main ingredients for this excellent album.  From “Man of Constant Sorrow4 over Richard Thompson’s “ two left Feet” to “Smoke On The Water” originally done by hard rock outfit Deep Purple, this album is a perfect mix of what bluegrass is about today.  Highlights are hard to recognize cause every song is as good as the rest but somehow classics like “Man of Constant Sorrow” or Pink Floyd’s “Whish you where here” are standout tunes.

The Debut album of Blue Mountain is without doubt one of the finest arrivals in a long time. Their honest approach on the classic sound is simply said wonderful and they are truly a band that will provides us with more pearls in the future.  Of course I could rave on about how good those guys are and how wonderful a tune like “Blackberry Blossom” or “Little Maggie” sounds, but the only thing that proves me right is to check out the tunes on their website. Here you can listen to some samples from previous demo releases and if that’s not enough for you then you can also check out this nice video on you tube.
